Why am I unable to log in to my Talent account in Canvas?
If your Canvas course - as well as your assignments in said course - is integrated with TORSH Talent, you should find a TORSH Talent window within the integrated course or its assignments.
In most cases, opening that window for the first time will immediately create a Talent account linked to your Canvas account. There will be no need for you to login manually to Talent or the Talent website, as it should be automatically linked to your Canvas webpage login.
However, there are some instances wherein you might run into issues with logging into TORSH Talent, so we have listed the troubleshooting and explanations for each scenario below:
1. Your System Does Not Have Automatic Talent Account Provisioning Enabled
In some instances, an organization may choose to integrate with TORSH Talent but not enable the automatic provisioning of TORSH Talent accounts via Canvas login.
If such is the case, you may need to reach out to your system admins to send you a TORSH Talent account invitation. Doing so will allow you to activate your TORSH Talent account separately from Canvas and create a separate password for logging into the TORSH Talent website directly. Moving forward from here, you can then login to the TORSH Talent website or access TORSH Talent directly from your Canvas webpage!
If you are unsure about your organization's TORSH Talent integration settings for creating/activating accounts, please reach out to us at support@torsh.co, and we'll be happy to verify for you and get you in touch with a system admin who can help, if needed!
2. You Are Visiting the Talent Website Instead of Canvas
If your system in Talent has automatic account provisioning enabled, you will not need to visit the TORSH Talent website to sign into your account. In order to access your TORSH Talent account for the first time, you will first need to create/activate your account directly through your Canvas webpage.
We've provided some instructions below to help:
- Go to a desktop/laptop computer.
- Open a trusted web browser and then login to your Canvas account.
- In Canvas, go to your 'Courses' panel.
- Find your TORSH Talent-integrated course in Canvas and click on it.
- On the left-side panel, you should now see a 'TORSH Talent' button in the listing. Click on it, and you will be brought to a TORSH Talent screen within Canvas. Answer the questions and activate your Talent account!
- If you do not see a 'TORSH Talent' button, your Canvas Admin may have disabled this tool from displaying. Instead, open the Canvas course and find your 'Assignments' listing in the course. Open one of your Talent-integrated assignments (this assignment will most likely request that you "submit a video/file") and you should see the TORSH Talent screen within Canvas now. Answer the questions and activate your Talent account!
- Once you are on the TORSH Talent home page, download and open up the TORSH Talent mobile app on your phone/tablet from the Google Play Store/App Store.
- You should now be able to use your regular Canvas login credentials to login to the Talent mobile app for any video recordings you wish to submit to Talent.
3. Your Organization Needs To Re-Configure Its TORSH Talent Integration Settings
If you encounter a regular TORSH Talent login screen when accessing either the 'TORSH Talent' button on Canvas or your Talent-integrated assignment, followed by this message:
System does not exist with matching LTI consumer key. Please check your Canvas APP configuration for TORSH Talent.
Then your organization needs to reconfigure your Canvas course's integration settings with Talent to make sure they match the LTI settings in place for your Talent system. Otherwise, you will be unable to link your Talent account with your Canvas account.
If you ever encounter this, please let your system admins know, or contact us at support@torsh.co so we can notify your admins.
4. Your Organization's Talent System Has Reached Its Available License Threshold
If you have not yet created/activated a TORSH Talent account through your Canvas webpage, and you are greeted by a TORSH Talent login screen with the error message:
Error: Sorry, the system you are trying to invite a user to has reached its user limit [500]
Your system in Talent has reached its available license threshold. Please reach out to one of your system admins to alert them so that they can manage the licenses in your system to allow for further availability. Once this has been managed, you should be able to open the TORSH Talent window in Canvas once more to automatically activate your TORSH Talent account!
5. Your Talent Account Was Marked for Deletion
If you once had an active TORSH Talent account tied to your Canvas account, and you now find your TORSH Talent window in Canvas leading to a Talent login screen instead of your Talent home page, then your system admins may have marked your Talent account for deletion.
Once a Talent account has been marked for deletion for (30) days, it will permanently delete. Please reach out to your system admins as soon as possible and request that your Talent account be reinstated so that you can access Talent within your Canvas webpage and complete your assignments.
6. Your Talent System Has Multiple Contract Terms and Needs to Have Its Contract Dates Refreshed
In TORSH Talent, your system admins can purchase more licenses under a different set of Contract Dates than your system was originally set to. These contract dates determine how long Talent accounts are active for; however, our integration with Canvas only links accounts created through (1) available contract term, not multiple contract terms.
If you are attempting to activate your Talent account via Canvas, and you come across a Talent login screen with the following error messages:
Error: No valid contract terms found, could not add user. [500]
OR
Error: Missing licenses, developers have been notified. [500]
Then we will need to refresh the Contract Dates for your overall system so that the multiple contract terms can be unified under one specific contract term.
To resolve this error message, please reach out to us at support@torsh.co, and we will be able to refresh the Contract Dates for your system, which should allow you to automatically activate your account in Canvas after the issue is resolved!
7. Your Talent Account Was Deleted, But Your Canvas Account Accidentally Provisioned a New Talent Account Associated With the Same Email Address
If you have a Coach/Instructor role account in Canvas that was recently deleted but then later re-instated under the same email address (and your Talent account linked to the previous account has remained active) you may encounter the following error message when viewing a student's submission via SpeedGrader:
Error processing Canvas/LTI request: User found, but unique identifier does not match, existing UID: [Old Canvas Account's UID] UID sent in parameters: [New Canvas Account's UID]
This means that your new Canvas account has a new Unique Identifier (UID) that does not match the UID associated with your previous Talent account. Because your new Canvas account matches the email address associated with your previous Talent account, the accounts are partially linked, but the new UID has not been instated, blocking your access to certain videos & files shared with you through TORSH Talent.
If and you run across this error message when using SpeedGrader, please reach out to us at support@torsh.co. Please provide a screenshot of the error message you receive, and we'll be happy to assist with updating your UID!
